Flash 55 - Death Row

How could he find warmth and comfort in the filth beneath his feet? Pain from his open wound shot up his leg each time he attempted to settle for a rest. The cries from his cell mates would undoubtedly ensure another sleepless night. What had he done to deserve this? Death would be a blessing.

I was watching a news item on telly concerning cruelty to pigs in NZ. It was heartbreaking. I was shocked and disgusted at the way some farmers treat their animals. It certainly made me question the type of food I eat and the life it has lead before reaching my dinner plate. Steve and I already had a plan in place to grow our own fruit and veg (so we know it's natural) and hope to have our own chickens in the future but I still feel I need to do more to control what I'm putting into my body. I've made a pledge to myself to investigate where the food I am eating has come from and what has been involved in getting it onto my plate.

If you're not interested in contributing a story, feel free to read the other entries. I'm sure any comments you have would be appreciated.

I'm with John on this one. Cruel farming (though I hesitate to even call the profit-oriented agribusiness farming)is worldwide. Not willing to become a vegetarian, my solution is to buy locally from small farmers who treat their animals humanely.

I’m up here.

Karen that is one of the reasons I'm switching to being a vegetarian. For one thing we don't know about the meats we feed our body, then the sheer thought of what the animals go through is another.

Pledge on sister!!!! You'll get addicted to gardening!!! There is nothing finer than growing your own food and you can control what you use on it to fertilize it. I have some great suggestions our friends use and let me tell you they work wonders and it's all good. We've had so many tomatoes, squash, peppers and so on. Best summer of home grown veggies ever.
