Happy Birthday Mum

Steve and I enjoyed a well deserved day off yesterday. We decided to take Mum out for her Birthday (her official birthday is tomorrow).

Click here for more pics of me and Mum.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch at one of our favourite places to hang out...Cock and Bull

A great time was had by all.

Roast Beef and Yorkshire pud...yum, yum!

Steve is back at work again today but we are looking forward to spending five days off together soon. Think I'll go watch some of the Emmys, love seeing all the beautiful and no so beautiful dresses.

Coming up...Carry On Tuesday...if all goes to plan :)

Hope you are all well.

Walkabout Wednesday

Welcome to Walkabout Wednesday. I held a readers' poll recently and many people said they would like to see more of my pics of New Zealand. I'll be sharing pics and stories from my corner of the world on Wednesdays and hope you will do the same. Have you been walkabout this week? If so, leave your details here and I'll pay you a visit.

Whitesnake discovered a walking track which is near our house. He's taken Coco there often, I thought it was about time I tried it out. It's the perfect length for a daily walk and includes uphill and downhill. I felt a little out of breath on parts of the track, not so bad that I couldn't talk (so it's all good). I thought I was doing quite well until Steve informed me he usually runs up there with Coco. I was not impressed with myself. Not to matter, I'll be running up there after him in no time, hehe.

Do you have any photos to share from your corner of the world?
Have a great day.

Today I am grateful for...my beautiful country.

Carry On... Tidying

The prompt from Carry On Tuesday this week is...So little done, so much to do.

So little done, so much do
It it doesn't get done before
Whitesnake comes home
I'll be in the pooh.

Just a short one from me this week, he he. I'm used to cleaning up after others and I thought I was a really tidy person until I met Steve. He cleans up as he goes and I kinda make a mess and then tidy up everything at once. I'm learning to put things away as I go and he's stopped tidying things before I've finished with them. A work in progress you might say. Least we can laugh about it and we do...often.

All is well here. We've just enjoyed a couple of days off together (never long enough). We always have so much fun. Yesterday, we went to the Dr for our annual checkups and we even enjoyed that.

I'm starting my own fun Meme - Walkabout Wednesday. I held a readers' poll recently and many people said they would like to see more of my pics of New Zealand. I'll be sharing pics and stories from my corner of the world on Wednesdays and hope you will do the same.

See you tomorrow

Flash 55 - Family Secrets

Horrified to learn his great grandmother had spent most of her life enslaved, he cursed and judged the man who’d been her Master. Later, he discovered his family on his father’s side had been slave traders. Not only was he shocked by his family history but how quickly he’d judged his own flesh and blood.

Inspired by a true story from  the TV Show Who Do You Think You Are?

Go The All Blacks

Greetings from cold and wet New Zealand.

All is good here. Steve and I have been together for almost a YEAR, how time flies when you're having fun.

We've just enjoyed a few days off together, YAY! We headed over to one of Steve's old haunts to catch up with some of his mates. A few beers were sunk and a good time was had by all.

Spent the rest of the time chilling and catching up on a few bits and pieces. Considering Steve doesn't enjoy 'reality TV' we sure watched a lot of it...Deadliest Catch, Dog Whisperer and Master Chef. I must be rubbing off on him in a really bad way.

Looking forward to watching my boys The All Blacks, kick South Africa's butts. I'll probably be tucked up in bed when the game is played so I'll watch it tomorrow.

That's all from me folks. I have some photos to post but I'll probably do that tomorrow.

Be good, stay safe.

KB'S WORLD

Hi all,

Haven't checked in for a while as we've been busy having fun, yay! We took Coco to the Vet Clinic on Friday for her check up. I was really anxious about the trip for a couple of reasons, her coat has been quite knotty but I didn't want to clip her back too much because it's still quite cold and I was worried the vet was going to think I was a bad mother. Also, Coco has been a nightmare (in the past) when other dogs are around, she used to bark and growl if another dog came near me. All went well. Coco has gained 3kgs, which is alot but the vet wasn't worried because she's not overweight. Must be all the good food she's getting now. The vet didn't even notice the knots, phew. Coco was an angel in the waiting room too, another dog barked right in her face and she just wagged her tail. All those episodes of The Dog Whisperer that Steve and I have been watching must be paying off, hehe.

Had a lovely evening with my parents and Steve. We enjoyed fish and chips, a couple of wines and Avatar .

Went for a lovely walk with Coco and Steve today. Steve discovered a track close to our house recently and we've been up there a few times now. We took some pics , I'll post them tomorrow.

Righto, I'm a tired girl so I'll head off to read Eat, Pray, Love. I'm a few chapters in and LOVING it!

Hope you are all well.

Friday Flash 55 - A New World

She re-checked her phone - still no signal. Every convenience had been available at the touch of a button. Internet, mobile phone, supermarket. How had people become so removed from reality? She'd need to re-learn skills that previously were instinctive to humans. To feed, clothe, warm and heal herself. Could she be the only survivor?

Quiet Time

Rush in the door, turn on the kettle, switch on the telly for the morning's news, log onto facebook to see what everyone's been up to. Sound familiar? No wonder we feel stressed and as if we're always playing catch up. I watched an episode on Oprah regarding this very topic. She took this brave family and asked them to give up TV, Internet, mobile phones and all other media sources for a week. The change in the family was extraordinary. They became much more connected and calmer with each other.

I decided to do a little experiment of my own. The thought of giving up Internet AND my mobile gave me heart palpitations so I decided to cut down on them instead. First thing I do in the morning is drive Steve to work. When I arrive I home, I make myself a cuppa, hop back into bed and spend a whole hour with myself. I'm actually much better company than I thought. I usually read or write in my journal.

I've decided to continue doing this. It's wonderful to start the day on MY terms instead of being influenced by other people's opinions and moods. I begin the day in a positive frame of mind,  making it easier to deal with outside negative influences. It's actually quite a relief to let the depressing news and grumpy emails go. They'll still be there later in the day.

I wouldn't give up my mobile phone because it's the only contact I have with Steve while he's at work but this experiment has seriously made me think about what I'm reading, watching etc and how much of it I really need in my day. Perhaps I'll try giving up TV or Internet for a week and see what happens. What about you guys? What could you quite easily do without?

P.S. Don't give up the Internet until you've replied to my post, hehe!

Carry On Tuesday - When I think how life used to be

The prompt this week from Carry On Tuesday is...When I think how life used to be.

When I think how life used to be
It makes me sad and angry
Looking back on those days
My world has changed in many ways

Love once lost has now returned
Extinguished passion, now it burns
Life is full, free at last
Anger and sadness left in the past

KB's World

Not much to report today. Steve is working...as usual. It's raining...as usual. The All Blacks beat the Wallabies...as usual. Coco and I went for a walk in the rain...VERY UNUSUAL.

P.S. If you don't know who the All Blacks are...there's a little vid here for you. According to Missy - 'they're doing their little dance' before the match.  AKA The Haka. Enjoy!

Hope you are all well and happy.

KB's Bookshelf

Having a cold has an upside - I've finished another book, yay!

Kathy Reichs is one of my favourite authors. You may think this is because the popular TV show Bones is based on the books which coincidentally stars David Boreanaz *drool* (apologies for drooling darling Steve). Now I've lost my train of thought...but no, I began reading the books way before the show started.

The plot is fast paced, the characters amusing and the forensic detail fascinating. If you are a fan of Bones (obviously) or any of the other C.S.I type shows , you'll love this read.

KB's World

Things have been a little up and down at the KB and Whitesnake abode due to much outside interference and we've both had an annoying cold. Sometimes we wish we could become hermits, lock the door and keep everyone out. We are on the mend now, my parents are back from a well deserved break in Fiji and all is back on track. Coco remains oblivious - oh to be a dog.

Righto, I have spent enough time on here. I'm off to have a few laughs at New Zealand's Next Top Model.

Flash 55

She leaps out of bed, not a care in the world. A whole day to spend with the family she adores. Off to the beach to splash in the waves. Home for a nap followed by a lovingly prepared meal. Early to bed so she can do it all again tomorrow. It’s a dog’s life.

Quote For The Day

Any time of the day is perfect for reading. Any place. Any excuse. Reading is the last refuge for addictive personalities; there are no bad side effects from reading too much.
-Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort of Joy

Books Read Last Month

8. The Dark Tower (The Dark Tower, Book 7)

Yay, I've finally finished the whole series. I remember the first time I finished  it, I was disappointed in the ending. I thought maybe this time, as I'd read each book in succession, the ending may have meant more but alas no. Still a crackin good read! Time for something different.

KB's World

I've been under the weather the past few days. Steve has been an angel, he's been cooking my meals, making me hot drinks, grocery shopping, you name it, he's been doing it. Unfortunately, just as I'm feeling better, he's starting to cough and sneeze. Looks like I'll be playing nurse for the next few days.

Apart from that, things have been going well. I had a call last night from a friend I haven't been in touch with for ages. It was really good to hear from her and fill her in on everything that's happened recently. It's wonderful to know that not everyone who knew hubby and I as a couple, is against me :)

Can't believe it's a new month already. I set myself some health goals last month and surprise, surprise, didn't stick to them. Oh well, new month, fresh start and all that.

That's all folks,

Back to my book. I've almost finished another one - one of the wonderful things about being ill, more reading time!

Bye for now

Writer's Island - Journey

Our prompt from Writer's Island this week is...Journey

We all have goals in life, some big, some small. Many people make a goal, reach it and move straight on to the next one without stopping to enjoy their success . Is it any wonder they remain unfulfilled?

An important lesson I have learned is to be grateful for what I have now. Even the little things...having hot running water for my shower (you probably know by now that I do some of my best writing in there, he he), going to bed on 'clean sheet day', the taste of chocolate, having a roof over my head, cuddles from Steve , family and friends who love me, sharing a banana with my dog.

One of my favourite sayings is 'life's not a dress rehearsal' but many of us act as if it were. Like an actress going through the motions, holding back for opening night. We only have one life, let's make the most of it. Take that extra few seconds to put on mascara, (I'm talking to the girls here) light the candles and set the table with the good china for dinner, wear perfume you love (girls again), phone that friend you've been meaning to catch up with, spend an evening reading in bed, indulge yourself with a wicked treat (whatever that may be).

Life is not about setting goals and reaching them, although this is important, life is in the little details. The story is the JOURNEY not the destination. Make your story a best seller.
