Yay, I'm blonde again

I decided to book an appointment with my hairdresser. I was beginning to think I'd have to change my name to KrazyBrown and the name just doesn't have the same ring to it. OMG, now you know I'm not a natural blonde. I'm giving away all my secrets.

I was running late - thanks to Toadee, CD and Jadey....tsk tsk. Zoomed off in my car, foot to the floor, only to be stopped by a policeman. And, before you question where this story is going; it's not another one of KB's fantasy dreams. *giggles to self*

Where was I? So, the handsome devil informs me I have to take a detour...arrgggg. Of course the hair salon happens to be in the cordoned off area. Parked my car a few streets away and set off on an mild jog. Five fire trucks, several police cars....KB's tongue hanging out (as you can imagine)...trips over own foot...falls on ground.

I finally arrived at the hairdressers - more or less in one piece. Had a coffee and a gossip- was all good. Spent a fortune having my hair coloured, cut and blow dried. As soon as I left the salon the rain poured down. I wasn't prepared for being outside when I left the house earlier. By the time I returned to my car, I was soaked from head to foot, shivering and my freshly pampered hair resembled a drowned rat.

Turns out the fire was minor and the only person injured was ME.

Have a great day

Visit to London

Visiting London had it's ups and downs for me.

PHOTOS NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Last time I was in the UK, I spent six weeks with my Gran. She'd been ill for a while so I knew it would probably be the last time we would be together. *sigh*. She passed away last year. It was difficult being back and knowing I wouldn't see her. She practically raised me and meant the world to me.

We were there for only three days which meant I didn't have a chance to catch up with friends and family. The main purpose for my visit was to keep Grace company as she didn't want to travel the distance on her own. We spent the few days we had there with her and her boyfriend. Her fella has been living there for six months and appears quite settled.

Being in London was scary. We arrived the day after the bomb scare. Piccadilly was cordoned off (two subway stops from where we were staying), there were policemen everywhere, a continuous drone from a helicopter and sirens blaring constantly. I was relieved to get out of there.

Hubby was flying the plane from London to Hong Kong so I was left on my own to check in at the airport. I hate Heathrow airport...every time I go there something goes wrong!! The day I left UK was no exception. I decided to use my staff travel ticket on this trip, which means I have to be on stand by. I waited for half and hour to check in, only to be told the flight was full and I should come back in half an hour.

There I was, sitting on my suitcase, reading my book , minding my own business. Two policemen came running through the departure lounge, yelling and screaming for us to evacuate immediately and stay away from the windows. I thought to myself, "Well, Karen, this is just bloody typical!". Grabbed my suitcase, and joined the crowds of people running through the airport.

We were evacuated for about an hour. There were a few people freaking out a bit but I was reasonably calm. Perving at the hot men in uniform must have distracted me.....LOL.

Tagged by a cop - a good way to start the day

1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits aboutthemselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eightthings and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

Random facts about KB

1. I love music and singing. God help anyone who tries take the microphone from me once I get started, especially when I've had a few drinks. I know that's actually two facts but, this is my blog so I can do as I like.

2. I was born in England

3. I'm passionate about Rugby...Go the Mighty All BLacks

4. I had two coffees for breakfast this morning

5. My 15 mins of fame.... My pic was on a training video at work, I've never lived it down and I'm still recognised all the time. I used to visit other offices around NZ and people would always give me that look - I know you from somewhere but have no idea where.

6. I've never ridden a motorcycle. I've been told it's quite the experince so I guess I should one day.

7. The most important influence in my life to date - My Gran...God bless her.

8. I talk to my dog on a regular basis - she's the only one who listens to me.

I'll tag Toadee, dickiebo, Patti, CD, Morgy, Missy, Keith and William. I know some of you have already been tagged but I don't have many mates of my own.....lmao.

Hong Kong By Night

For some reason, I think Fanny has a different meaning in Hong Kong...hehe!!!!

PHOTOS NO LONGER AVAILABLE

I loved being out and about in Hong Kong in the evenings. Hubby spends a lot of time there so he knew all the fun places to visit. We ate too much, drank too much and had a ball.

Hubby had warned me about the hookers but OMG one of them tried to pick him up while I was right there....HELLO!!!!

In all seriousness, I found their presence upsetting to say the least. Some of the girls were so young. There they were sitting with men old enough to be their grandfathers. I realise it's much more acceptable over there and I know prostitution is legal and the girls have regular medical checks but I couldn't get my head around it at all. I kept imagining how I would feel if one of my girls were in that situation.

More pics from the trip later

Disneyland - Hong Kong style

PHOTOS NO LONGER AVAILABLE

I visited Disneyland in the US around ten years ago. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, could have stayed longer. I was disappointed with Disneyland in Hong Kong. Only ONE roller coaster and we had been on all the interesting rides in about four hours. The main 'theme' for this park was making money and not a lot else. I realise the place is there to make money but where's the fun-stuff people!!!!!!

Grace's joy of being to Disneyland for the first time made up for my lack of enthusiasm. A fantastic day was had by all. We did, however, choose to visit on the hottest day we encountered while we were in Hong Kong. The high for the day was 35 degrees and I certainly felt it. I've never sweat so much in my life, and I don't wish to again any time soon. Ewwwww!!!!!!

My First Visit To Hong Kong

Hong Kong took me by surprise. I was expecting a sea of high rise buildings as far as the eye could see. This wasn’t the case. We stayed in Wan Chai which is surrounded by a busy harbour and picturesque mountains.

Grace and I slept well on the plane journey over. Hubby not so well as he was flying the plane, hehe!!!Hubby suggested we head out straight away to acclimatise to Hong Kong time.
The first thing I noticed outside was the smell. I now refer to the place as Hong Pong. And of course, coming from little ole New Zealand - I’ve never seen so many people in my life.
Here are some pics of places we visited during the day.

Batten Down The Hatches

I’ve spent the last three hours without power but I’m one of the lucky ones. 90,000 homes between Auckland and Wellsford are without power this evening , possibly for up to twelve hours.

Winds are gusting up to 130kmph. I think I’ll be staying in doors for a while.

For Toadee...Feed The Good Wolf

My Gracie recently completed a course http://www.outwardbound.co.nz/
She faced many challenges along the way , including a half marathon and scaling a huge mountain -blindfolded with her shoe laces tied together. Yikes!!!!! Whever she felt she couldn't do any more, she would chant, 'Feed The Good Wolf Grace' over and over to herself until she was in a better state of mind. Some of my buddies are going through a few difficulties at the moment so I thought I'd share Grace's favourite story with you all.

There is a story about a Navajo grandfather who once told his grandson, "Two wolves live inside me. One is the bad wolf, full of greed and laziness, full of anger and jealousy and regret. The other is the good wolf, full of joy and compassion and willingness and a great love for the world. All the time, these wolves are fighting inside me." "But grandfather," the boy said. "Which wolf will win?" The grandfather answered, "The one I feed."

Jay's visit

Last year, I made an online friend named Jay. We've become very close, I think of her as a daughter. She even calls me Mum. .....awwwww. She came to stay with me (for the second time) a couple of weeks ago.

I felt a little guilty because I had so much going on during the week (Hayley's visit, Grace's last week in Auckland, preparing for hols etc). I didn't spend as much time with her as I would have liked but we had fun anyway.

The best day was Friday. We drove to the city to visit the Sky Tower. We arrived before the rain and took a few pics. I was lucky Jay was with me because I got lost in the carpark. If she hadn't been there, I'd probably still be driving around. HEHE!!!!

Jay and I at the top of the Sky Tower

That evening we went to dinner with 17 people (mainly family and a few close friends) to celebrate Grace's upcoming overseas adventure. We dined at our favourite Vietnamese restaurant which is located in one of Auckland's poorer neighbourhoods but the food is always fantastic.

Every time we visit, we joke about dropping into the disreputable bar next door. Unfortunately, my good friend Penny had a few too many wines and when we get together it's usuallly big trouble for all. We dragged everyone into the sleazy bar. It was one of those old fashioned places with silver disco ball, mist flowing over the dance floor, while playing selction of 70s and 80s music. You know the kind of place.
We had a dance and a few drinks. The locals eyed us suspiciouly for a while, which was a little scary as most of them looked like they'd just stepped off the set of Deliverence. Didn't take long for some of the - erm, 'ladies' to join us on the dance floor. I'm not sure if Jay will ever visit me again after that exoerience but I had a ball.

When we arrived home, I introduced Jay to my Guitar Hero Game and I think she's addicted. Maybe she'll come back after all.
