Friday Flash 55 - The Big Day

Each Friday I write a short story in exactly 55 words. If you'd like to join in the fun and games, write your story, visit G-Man and let him know you've posted.

Kate stretched under the covers. This would be the last morning she'd wake up as a single woman. The past few months had been hectic but now she felt surprisingly calm. Her life would be under a microscope from here on but today was her day and she intended to enjoy every minute of it.

Just show us the bloody dress and get it over with, LOL! I'm not obsessed with the Royal Wedding like some people but I do wish the happy couple all the best for their big day..

Have a great weekend all.

Weekend Walkabout

Welcome to Weekend Walkabout, a place to share and explore the different corners of our world.

We haven't been Walkabout this weekend. Just been relaxing and enjoying each others company :)

If so, post your story or pictures to your blog, leave a comment here and a link to your post on our Linky and Whitesnake or KB will come take a look. Keeping Up With KB

Just visited the local shopping centre to buy some lunch. There were so many people there, anyone would think the shops were going to close for a year rather than a couple of days at Easter....NIGHTMARE!

Apart from that, all is well, the sun is shining, Whitesnake and I have the whole four days of the Easter break  together and on Monday, Whitesnake is cooking a yummy Birthday lunch for me and the family. I can't wait. What are you all up to for Easter?

Blank Page

Hi there,

I've shared my poem with One Shot Wednesday.

No rhythm, no rhyme
No plot conceived
The page is blank
Breathe girl, breathe

The cursor blinks
She’s taunting me
The first words
Will set me free

Take a deep breath
Trust your heart
Words will flow
Just need to start

The story evolves
An image so clear
The page is full
No longer feared

30 Days To A Happier Healthier Me - A Work In Progress

30 days to a happier, healthier me - day 30

Yay, it's taken me six months but I've finally finished implementing the 30 actions into my life. Along the way, I've lost weight, my blood pressure and cholesterol have lowered and I'm feeling an overall sense of well being. I didn't blog about the last few actions as I didn't think reading about me flossing my teeth and moisturising every day would be very interesting for you, hehe!

I've learned a lot along the way. Changing your lifestyle takes commitment and determination but it's worth it. Exercising and practicing different forms of relaxation definitely helps reduce the build up of my anxiety and makes it more manageable. Most of all I've learnt that changing the habits of a life time in 30 days is possible but sticking to these changes takes a daily commitment.

Righto, that's all from my for today. I'm off for a walk.

See you tomorrow

Weekend Walkabout - Whitford

Welcome to Weekend Walkabout, a place to share and explore the different corners of our world.

The weather has been a mixed bag recently so we decided to take advantage of the sunshine with a walk around the park in Whitford.

Goodbye Old Friend

Each Friday I write a short story in exactly 55 words. If you'd like to join in the fun and games, write your story, visit G-Man and let him know you've posted.

She was left alone for days at a time. Just as he intended. Saying she was hard to love. She began to believe it. Her solace her computer screen and friends she made through it. Chatting to anyone, even those who treated her badly. She wondered why she cried at night. Her loneliness all consuming.

Have a great weekend all.

You Inspire Me

Hi there,

I've shared my poem with One Shot Wednesday.

Grandma’s stories
Tucked up in bed
The way she loved me
The things she said

First true love
The touch of your hand
Sitting on benches
Making big plans

Family and children
Inspire me each day
I see myself in them
In a different way

Woman full grown
My time to shine
The simple life
Inspires me just fine

Be kind to each other.

Desert Flower - Waris Dirie

One of my goals this year is to read more books. You can read my reviews and learn where you can purchase any of the books I've read this year here...KB's Bookshelf.

Here's a bit of the blurb from the back cover...

Waris ran away from her desert nomad family at the age of 12 when her father arranged her marriage to a sixty-year-old stranger in exchange for five camels. She escaped through the harsh Somalian desert and travelled to London where she was discovered by a fashion photographer. But she bore with her the harsh memory and real pain of an ancient custom: circumcision, administered to her at the tender age of five.

This is a remarkable, true story which brought me to tears a couple of times. The ordinary to Waris seemed extraordinary to me. This book caused me to reflect on my own life and how lucky I am to have a roof over my head, food in the fridge, fresh water to drink and most of all the right to make my own decisions in life. I'm counting my blessing. Thanks Waris.

Are you reading anything interesting besides my blog?

See you soon

The Longest Night

Each Friday I write a short story in exactly 55 words. If you'd like to join in the fun and games, write your story, visit G-Man and let him know you've posted.

Sandra tossed and turned, their bed felt enormous.

Mark sat upright in the dark. He was exhausted but the discomfort from the tubes and the constant beeping from machines keeps him awake. Their thoughts were with each other. Forty years of marriage, this their first night apart. It was the longest night of their lives.

My Dad had to spend the night in the hospital earlier in the week. I knew he was going to be OK but I tossed and turned all night worrying about how my parents were coping with being separated. They are practically joined at the hip. Anyway, we all made it through the night and Dad is recovering nicely.

Have a great weekend all and don't forget to tell the people you care about how much you love them.

Stop Eating Before Bed

30 days to a happier, healthier me - day 20 - stop eating 2-3 hrs before bed.

I found this tough in the beginning but a combination of a large meal and a couple of glasses of wine before bed was playing havoc with my digestion. Now I give myself a cut off time and don't eat after that. I find having bigger meals during the day (especially earlier in the day) really takes the late night cravings away. I've also noticed a big reduction in my use of tablets for my acid reflux. Cutting back on alcohol has also helped with the reflux too. I'm going to keep this regime up because I really do feel better for it.
