Poetry: A Year Ago Today

Bumped up to share with  Poetry Pantry , originally posted 21/9/2010

A year ago today
Didn't expect to feel this way
Forlorn and ashamed
No one else to blame

A year ago today
Why did it end that way
Lies and deceit
No thoughts of who would weep

A year ago today
No one standing in my way
Hearts trampled in my wake
Their give, to my take

A year ago today
Gave my old life away
Too late to explain
My excuses, no ones gain

A year ago today
A new life on its way
His love will find a way
To guide me through this day

  29. Really we don't know what each year will bring, do we? When we look back a year, sometimes it is amazing the changes that the year has brought. So much unexpected. Some good, and some bad. Some things end. Some things begin. Life throws us a curve ball sometimes & then brings us back!

  30. It is amazing what a difference a year makes. I enjoyed your poem, and especially loved his comment about unconditional love. That is awesome.

  34. Written by a true soldier of life. We live, we try, we hurt....but we must move along with time. I sense the pain, loss, hurt and hope here.
    Well penned. Onto Tomorrow!

  35. Endings can be devastating, but there is always that chance to rebuild something stronger than the original.

  37. A year can mean so many changes, and even if ends are painful, new beginning can make everything better.

  38. A year ago today"...it all sems so long ago, and yet it was only yesterday." Life can turn on a dime...

  42. The repetition make it sound like a mixture of prayer and a promise. There has been loss, and it hurts, but hope still remains...

  43. Lovely poem. A year ago is not that long anymore it seems.

  46. An intriguing, well rendered piece. 'A year ago today Gave my old life away' … an awesome line that gave me pause. We give our old lives away - I think - in years, and months and days … sometimes in seconds.

  47. Nice to know it was a year ago and not today!

  48. Ah, the tentativeness of a new start in life, wondering if it’s right, what you’ve left behind... Lovely!

  53. It is very important to have your own voice and way of life without others trying to alter you. There will always be some sadness in our lives, hopefully we can always deal with it.

  54. A year ago was different from today.
Much has changed along the way.

  56. A year ago today, a milestone in the journey, I am sure. Hopefully, the road has brought new found joy and adventures.

  57. I love the line, that runs through your poem..."A year ago today..." A year can be a long time, a life time, or not time at all. Loved this poem.

  58. So much can happen in a year. It's always (well, almost always) good to be still and take stock of the year that's just passed and see how far we've come, and to celebrate what has improved in that time.

    ReplyDelete
  59. A year sounds brief compared to the many but a year holds so much. In one year I lost my mother and a dear cousin and three friends yo suicide yet you put hope at the end of this poem. Hope is right where it should be.

  60. A year is long...but also very short- a matter of days. It's a blessing to be able to tell the tale.
