Rescued Hens

These little beauties used to live in cages until our lovely neighbours adopted them. The girls look so much healthier than when they were first brought home. Hubby and I feed them when our neighbours travel. This morning, they were waiting at the gate for us.  I love the clucking noise they make when they hear us coming and the fresh eggs are delicious.

  6. That's fun! A friend, with a few free range chickens on a farm, just had someone deliver one to her door. It was being chased by a fox in the city!

  7. I love seeing free range chickens! So horrible what we do as people to these poor critters, but many people understand the benefits of letting them roam. We have cougars and coyotes (as well as other critters) where we live so I'm not sure I could keep chickens safe, though I'd love to have them. I also worry I wouldn't have someone like you, the good neighbor, who could feed them while I was away!

  18. Hooray for free-range chickens! They do look good. Our daughter and son-in-law have chickens and when we're in Oregon we get eggs! Nothing you can buy in a store compares.
