Maiki Hill is topped by a flagstaff. The original was donated by Maori leader Hone Heke. However, after the Treary of Waitangi, he became unhappy with the British authority and cut it down. The flagstaff was cut down four times by Maori and re-erected in 1858.
The view from up there is magnificent.
