An Emotional Christmas

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas or if you don't celebrate Christmas, a happy holiday.

Our Christmas has been a mixed bag of emotions. My sister's partner passed away after a long illness about a week before Christmas. At least he is no longer in pain.

Here's a pic of the family celebrating Christmas before he became ill. Left to right - Whitesnake, KB, Sister, Sister's partner, Dad. Mum took the photo.

A couple of day's later was the first anniversary of our sweet dog's passing. She was my baby and I miss the little angel dearly.

Our Christmas was full of love, good food, wine, Christmas movies and presents. Luckily for me, my husband loves to cook.

  1. Soon after Christmas, Japanese people start preparing for the year-end and New Year’s events.
Compared to Christmas, many of these events are based on Japanese tradition and are deeply related to religion.
The end-of-year party is called “bonenkai” in Japanese. “Bonen” means to forget (the worries of) the past year.
People are busy with events on New Year’s Eve.

  4. My condolences to your sister, KB, on her partner pasting. There's never a good time for death, but the ending of the suffering of a prolong illness, is a blessing. Allowing oneself to move forward and celebrate the life of the love one, in hearts and memories. In November 1998, my dad ended his 13+ year struggle with severe angina. I know, in the end that he didn't feel anything, as his final heart attack, left him, brain-dead. The hardest part wasn't giving the medical staff permission to "pull the plug", rather, looking a body on the hospital bed, and seeing dad there.

If you haven't raise a glass of wine, or whatever you drink, in memory of this dear person, please do so, as the first toast for the new year.

  5. I'm sorry to hear of your sister's loss. How sad, particularly at Christmas. And also the death of your dog, who looks like a sweetheart.
