An Emotional Christmas

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas or if you don't celebrate Christmas, a happy holiday.

Our Christmas has been a mixed bag of emotions. My sister's partner passed away after a long illness about a week before Christmas. At least he is no longer in pain.

Here's a pic of the family celebrating Christmas before he became ill. Left to right - Whitesnake, KB, Sister, Sister's partner, Dad. Mum took the photo.

A couple of day's later was the first anniversary of our sweet dog's passing. She was my baby and I miss the little angel dearly.

Our Christmas was full of love, good food, wine, Christmas movies and presents. Luckily for me, my husband loves to cook.

Merry Christmas

Early to bed
Anticipate the dawn
No thoughts of our Saviour
Or the day he was born

Tossing and turning
No sleep to be had
Excitement is growing
Driving me mad

Peer through the curtains
Searching the sky
Hoping perchance
To see him fly by

Squeals of delight
He surely has been
Little sis impatient
To share what she's seen

Skip through the kitchen
Crumbs left on his plate
Gifts galore surprise me
Santa was definitely worth the wait

I'm taking a blogging break while I celebrate the holidays. Have a wonderful time, stay safe and I will see you again in the New Year.

Acrostic Poetry - Tradition

Going to the beach for the Christmas holidays is a popular tradition in New Zealand.

Toes in the sand

Restless minds begin to calm

Another lazy day

Diving into the ocean

Imagination abounds

Toasted marshmallows

Intoxicating moonlight

Open fire to dance around

Nourishment for the soul

A Fun Weekend

Hi all,

Whitesnake and I had a fun filled weekend. On Saturday we headed out to our neighbours' home for Christmas drinks. We believed we'd stay for about an hour, but ended up staying for four. It was good to get to know our neighbours better and we had a great chat and a few laughs.

The next day we visited my parents for coffee and a catch up and that was fun too.

Hope you are well.

Keeping Up With KB - Christmas Day

Hi all,

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas because we certainly did.

Whitesnake, Coco and I spent the morning together opening pressies, pottering around and watching the top 400 awesome hits of the eighties.

The music reminded me of  happy times but some clips brought back memories of a couple of bad perms I had, which I'd rather forget.

We headed over to my parents' house for a late lunch. I was really pleased that the food was reasonably healthy and I didn't feel like I'd overindulged. It was great to catch up with my sis and her fella. We  don't see them enough and are going to make more of an effort to catch up in the future.

Whitesnake and I spent the evening having a few drinks while we watched, A Christmas Carol (my favourite Christmas movie). All in all, a lovely day.

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

Keeping Up With KB

30 days to a happier, healthier me - day 5

I'm interested in finding new recipes and trying them out. My goal is to cook a new recipe each week to broaden my cooking horizons. Whitesnake and I have already started this and our recipe this week was supplied by our good friend Missy. Thanks for the recipe hun, we orginally intended to have a little bowl each before dinner but it was so good, we ate the whole lot. Follow the link below to see more pics and the recipe details.  Recipe details and pics here

All is going well. I hear most of my blog friends are freezing in the cold while we are in short sleeves and shorts. Had to be up at 4am this morning to pick Whitesnake up from his last night shift. Glad I won't have to do that anymore. Coco has written a wee post...Coco's Inner Peace      .  The Christmas tree is up and most of the Christmas Shopping is done. Our Tomato plants are growing well and we have five small fruits so far. Time to relax and put our feet up.

See you tomorrow with some pics from my walk at the park.
Lots of Love

CHRISTMAS DAY

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day. Mine was one of the most relaxing I've had in ages. Opened pressies with Steve and Coco in the morning, over to Mum and Dad's for lunch with my sis and her boyfriend. Finished off with a DVD in the evening. Lovely!

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas to you and yours. I will leave you with an amusing poem and catch up with you all next year.

Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck

**Contributed to Swenny's E-Mail Funnies by Walter Schumacher, OK and NC**

'Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck...

How to live in a world that's politically correct?

His workers no longer would answer to "Elves".

"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.

And labor conditions at the north pole

Were alleged by the union to stifle the soul.

Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety,

Released to the wilds by the Humane Society.

And equal employment had made it quite clear

That Santa had better not use just reindeer.

So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid,

Were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid!

The runners had been removed from his sleigh;

The ruts were termed dangerous by the E.P.A.

And people had started to call for the cops

When they heard sled noises on their roof-tops.

Second-hand smoke from his pipe had his workers quite rightened.

His fur trimmed red suit was called "Unenlightened."

And to show you the strangeness of life's ebbs and flows,

Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose

And had gone on Geraldo, in front of the nation,

Demanding millions in over-due compensation.

So, half of the reindeer were gone; and his wife,

Who suddenly said she'd had enough of this life,

Joined a self-help group, packed, and left in a whiz,

Demanding from now on her title was Ms.

And as for the gifts, why, he'd ne'er had a notion

That making a choice could cause so much commotion.

Nothing of leather, nothing of fur,

Which meant nothing for him. And nothing for her.

Nothing that might be construed to pollute.

Nothing to aim. Nothing to shoot.

Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise.

Nothing for just girls. Or just for the boys.

Nothing that claimed to be gender specific.

Nothing that's warlike or non-pacific.

No candy or sweets...they were bad for the tooth.

Nothing that seemed to embellish a truth.

And fairy tales, while not yet forbidden,

Were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden.

For they raised the hackles of those psychological

Who claimed the only good gift was one ecological.

No baseball, no football...someone could get hurt;

Besides, playing sports exposed kids to dirt.

Dolls were said to be sexist, and should be passe;

And Nintendo would rot your entire brain away.

So Santa just stood there,disheveled, perplexed;

He just could not figure out what to do next.

He tried to be merry, tried to be gay,

But you've got to be careful with that word today.

His sack was quite empty, limp to the ground;

Nothing fully acceptable was to be found.

Something special was needed, a gift that he might

Give to all without angering the left or the right.

A gift that would satisfy, with no indecision,

Each group of people, every religion;

Every ethnicity, every hue,

Everyone, everywhere...even you.

So here is that gift, it's price beyond worth...

"May you and your loved ones enjoy peace on earth."

BA HUM BUG

I loooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Christmas but I must admit, seeing Christmas trees for sale in September is too much. Who needs to buy a tree in September? What are we going to do, put the tree up and leave it there for a few months? Actually, I decorated my tree and didn't take it down until the end of January one time. I found it quite amusing how horrified people were.

BTW, I have no idea how to spell Ba Hum Bug but that's why I have the spelling police around.

GIFTS TO GIGGLE BY

I received a few interesting gifts this Christmas. Here are some of my favourites:

I often say, "Ironing isn't in my job description". My sister-in-law thought this ironing board cover would help keep my mind on, erm...the job in hand.

This caricature of hubby and I was drawn by a good friend's son-in-law who stayed at the beach with us over Christmas. It's scary how well he got to know us after such a short time.

It's hard to see properly in the photo but there is some very unsavory looking food on the table and the caption reads - Why do you remind me why I married you, every time you cook?

Last time we went camping, the rain poured down and every time I went outside I came back with legs covered in mud. I mentioned to hubby how I would love to have some wellies (AKA wellington boots, gumboots) but I couldn't bring myself to wear those ugly black ones. OMG, I love my pink and purple wellies;they are so me!

GONE TO THE BEACH

Well kidddies, it's the time of year when I must love and leave you. Christmas is almost upon us and I still have so much to do. I'll be heading to the beach on Boxing Day, hopefully the rain will stay away this time.

I wish you and your families a magical Christmas and a Happy New Year. I know some of you won't be getting presents from Santa this year because you have been very bad, hehe. Enjoy the pressies, your friends and families, eat and drink too much. If your family are anything like mine...try not to strangle the one family member who always drives you crazy.

Be good or bad. If you're gonna be bad, I want to hear all about it when I return. See you in the new year!

Lots of hugs, kisses, snogs and a few slaps. Love KB xxxxxxx

P.S I'll leave you with some pics I took last time I went to beach. There aren't many because it rained most of the time.

QUESTIONABLE CHRISTMAS GIFTS

I had an item I wanted to include with a Christmas pressie and wasn't sure if I could send it via mail. I decided to log onto the NZ Post website to check. Here's what I discovered:

WHILE PROHIBITED ITEMS MAY APPEAR HARMLESS, UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES THEY CAN EASILY BECOME DANGEROUS.

There followed a list of the usual suspects: cigarette lighters, aerosol cans...

The list became more intriguing as I read on: explosives, grenades, radioactive materials, infectious substances

THESE ITEMS AND SUBSTANCES MAY BE SENT ONLY IF PACKAGED CORRECTLY. NZ POST WILL ENDEAVOUR TO MAKE THE ITEM SAFE OR RETURN THE ITEM TO YOU.

Oh, it's too much. I can't stop laughing. Wonder how I package and infectious substance correctly? Looks like I'll be having those grenades I sent out returned to me and I'll have to rethink some of my Christmas gifts this year, LMAO!

THIRTEEN SLEEPS AND COUNTING...EEK!

I always imagined Christmas preparations would be something I'd get better at with age, but it seems the older I get, the less prepared I am.

Haven't written any cards or bought any presents but I've finally put the Christmas tree up.

Feels strange decorating the tree in 24 degree heat. I've been living in New Zealand for 25 years and the only thing I miss is a white Christmas. I don't think I'll ever become accustomed to Christmas in summer.

Christmas In October?

I was horrified today to see a Christmas tree and other decorations on display at my local supermarket. I feel like I've only just recovered from last Christmas. WTF!!!
