Keeping Up With KB

Hi all,

It's been a couple of weeks since I've posted because we've been busy enjoying ourselves. Last week was Mum's birthday and Father's Day, so we headed out to my parents' place for a yummy feast. A good time was had by all.

A friend of ours who I've known for thirty years, recently moved back to our neck of the woods, so we had a catch up earlier this week. The last time we saw him was at our wedding so it was lovely to share a couple of yummy meals, a few laughs and more than a few wines. We convinced him to stay the night rather than drive home. We made him breakfast before we sent him on his way and I was chuffed that the poached eggs I cooked came out perfectly...I've been practicing.

We spent the rest of the day having a bit of a tour around our neighbourhood. Even though we've lived here a little while now, there are still areas we haven't explored. We found a great place to walk Coco, (she loves the sea), really looking forward to going back there with her.

We dropped Coco off for a haircut later on in the day so she's prepared for the upcoming warmer months. Check out the before and after shots...

Today, we bought a new barbeque, water blaster and lettuce to plant in the garden in preparation for the spring weather.

A great week for us.

I thought I could hang up my nurse's hat since hubby was all healed and back to work but, that's not the case. My Mum broke her wrist a few days ago and I've been spending some time taking care of her. In other words, making sure she sits still and rests. Quite a feat for my mother.

Yesterday, I accompanied my parents to the accident and emergency room as Mum was due to have her cast checked. There's always a long wait at the A&E. I sat in a corner, minding my own business, reading a book. For some reason, people always talk to me when I am trying to read. One lady told me she was there because her son had been bitten by a rat. I sat next to a young man who was covered in blood after a fall from his skateboard and a man suffering severe stomach pains. I certainly saw some sights.

Anyway, Mum had her cast made more comfortable and she's in a much better frame of mind. Bless her!


FACT FOR TODAY

RUNNING IS BAD FOR US...I KNEW IT!

My parents are runners. They are those crazy people you see pounding the streets whatever the weather. The rain is pouring down today but that didn't stop them putting on their running shoes. They headed off to the beach this morning and my Mum slipped over. We think she has a broken wrist but will know the extent of the damage when she returns from hospital. She's a bit shaken up but she's going to be fine. It just proves what I have been saying to her for years...running is bad for you!

Thinking Of Mum

I've been thinking a lot about my Mum since her birthday last week. I still can't believe she's 60.

My parents married when they were youngsters, spending most of my early years working. Mum worked the evening shift at a factory and Dad worked during the day. I was practically raised by my Grandmother who was a wonderful lady, but I missed Mum heaps.

This is one of my favourite photos of the two of us. I obviously wasn't enjoying myself at the time but I love the expression on Mum's face. She looks so happy to be spending time with me.
