Weekend Walkabout, Howick, NZ
Welcome to Weekend Walkabout, a place to share and explore the different corners of our world.
It's amzing what you miss when you drive rather than walk around. Whitesnake and I were about the other week when we discovered this cute, little park. We drive past it all the time but last time I remeber, it was a bus depot. Loving the new look.
Walkabout is a phrase we use in NZ, which means to walk around and explore with no specific destination in mind. Have you been walkabout anywhere interesting this week? If so, post your story or pictures to your blog, leave a comment here and a link to your blog on our Linky and Whitesnake or KB will come take a look.
Have a great weekend.
See you tomorrow for Microfiction Monday.

Keeping Up With KB
I'm having the strangest week. I feel like I'm all over the place and don't know if I'm coming or going. Outside interference as usual. Sometimes, I wish Whitesnake and I could become hermits and vanish to some undisclosed location but I guess the world doesn't work like that. We've both heard from our exes, well I sorta heard about mine in a round about way. My exes old girlfriend got in touch with me on facebook and it kinda freaked me out. I was thinkin...how the hell do you know who I am and why on earth do you wanna grill me about my ex? Weird. Funny how Whitesnake and I have contact from our old lives at the same time, it happens like that every time.
Facebook is great but it can be upsetting sometimes to see people from my old life. I've removed most of them but I still see them around sometimes. I was in tears the other night because of one harmless comment another person made but it just made me feel sad. Sometimes, I just want to delete everyone I know from my old life from my friends list but then I think maybe I just have to deal with how I feel instead of trying to ignore it. What do you guys think? Is it better to make a clean sweep and keep in contact with friends via email instead or face the fact that some people from my old life will show up on facebook from time to time and I have to deal with it?
Whitesnake's work shifts have been all over the place too so some nights I'm in bed by ten and others one in the morning. That should settle down soon though. I"m also making a few health changes and I think that is a bit of a shock to the system sometimes. Have to pace myself and not do too much at once.
It's not all bad though. Whitesnake has been really supportive about the changes I"m making and he's making many along side me too. It's so much easier to go through this process with him by my side. I'm so proud of him. Yesterday, we were out of the house and on our walk by nine and it was wonderful. Whitesnake even did some running as Coco and I walked around the park. I forgot to put sunblock on and got a little burnt. Yikes! Who gets sunburn at ten in the morning? Silly me.
I've had one alcohol free night this week and only had a couple of extra glasses of wine so far. I'm very pleased with that. It gets easier too. The first few weeks I was looking at not having a drink as a bad thing but now I barely think about it.
I've cut down to one coffee in the morning too. Had a bit of a headache the first day, which I think was lack of sleep and coffee combined. Been eating a healthy breakfast every morning. You can check out our joint blog for healthy breakfast ideas and our recipe for this week is Simply Delish Mussels with White Wine and Garlic Sauce.
I think that's me all up to date now. What have you been up to?
See you tomorrow for Weekend Walkabout.

P.S. I often write my posts a couple of days in advance so I have my posts ready to go on the weekends. I wrote this one a few days back and I've already resolved much of my facebook stuff but I'm still curious as to how you would deal with the situation.

Missing You
Yay, it's Friday which means it's time for Friday Flash 55, brought to us by the charming Mr G-Man.
Bellybutton ring made me mad
Ally Mcbeal made us sad
First day of school in that silly hat
Feeding the good wolf, what happened to that?
I miss you sweetheart, I hope you're well
Living without you is sometimes hell
I’ll always be here whenever you need me
I love you dearly, please believe me.
See you tomorrow for Simply Delish and Keeping Up With KB.

Breakfast Is Still The Most Imortant Meal Of The Day But Does It Have To Be So Big?
So, one of my goals this week was to eat a healthier breakfast and I must say it's harder than I thought. I'm finding the amount of food too much to stomach. So I've compromised and have half of it for breakfast and the rest for morning tea. I've hardly snacked at all like I used to so it's working great. Perhaps my stomach will get used to eating more in the mornings but until then, I'll continue on as I am. It also helps to have lots of healthy options in the pantry and to have an idea of what you are going to eat before you get out of bed.
I've written a post about the healthy breakfast options I've used so far and added a few more I'll try in the future. It's over on our joint blog as that's where we record all our foodie stuff. If you have any suggestions for breakfast, please do share.
See you tomorrow for Skywatch.

Cutting Back On Caffeine
30 days to a happier, healthier me - day 11
My plan is going really well, I'm doing the things I said I would most of the time so why do I feel like I'm failing? I updated my results yesterday and discovered I've lost half an inch off my waist, my resting heart rate has gone down and I've reduced my real age. The thing with me is I have no patience, I want results NOW. I expect to reverse 20 years of treating my body like crap in a few months. Life doesn't work that way KB, if I expect to wake up one morning and feel like I'm 20 years old again, I'm going to be disappointed. Righto, I feel better after that whinge. I will continue on and try to focus on the positive rather than the negative. If anyone feels like slapping me into shape...go ahead! Just kidding. I really do feel better already. Back to today's goal.
I used to be addicted to caffeine. The coffee machine was a few steps away from my desk at work and the coffee was free in those days. I'd get through half a dozen cups minimum a day. When I began suffering from anxiety my doctor suggest (along with other things) to cut back on the caffeine. If you've ever been a big coffee drinker like I was and tried to stop cold turkey, you'll understand it's no easy task. I literally had to go to bed for two days and the headache I had was the worst I'd ever had in my life. Anyway, as always, when I set myself a task...I follow through, it's my stubbornness you see. I cut back to one cup a day and it's been up and down over the years. I've decided to cut back to one again and luckily I don't drink too much of it these days. I'm also going to cut back my decaf coffee...I didn't realise decaf and the green tea I've been drinking has a small amount of caffeine too. I don't usually drink soda so I'll be fine there.
I did a little research, as I do and here are a few interesting things I discovered. Drinking over 250mg of caffeine per day (2-3 cups of filtered coffee) can lead to nervousness and high blood pressure. If you brew your cuppa for one minute instead of five, you halve the caffeine content from 80 to 40mg. It's advisable to cut back very slowly over a month to avoid headache, fatigue and depression...NO KIDDING!
Caffeine Chart
Per cup
instant coffee 66mg
percolated 110mg
teabag - 5 min brew 46mg
teabag - 1 min brew 28mg
cocoa 13mg
decaf 4mg
12 ounce can
Coca-Cola 65mg
Dr Pepper 61mg
Mountain Dew 55mg
Diet Coke 49mg
Righto, that's all from me today. Off to enjoy a cup of lemon ginger tea.
See you tomorrow for more 30 days to a happier, healthier me.
