FLASH 55

'I’m preparing a family lunch but I forgot dessert. The shops are shut for Easter, lunch will be ruined,' she sobbed.

The stranger placed his arm around her to give some comfort. She turned to thank him. His face was filthy and his clothes torn. A gentle reminder of the true meaning of Easter.

HAPPY EASTER

Easter in NZ is becoming like Christmas. Everyone is rushing around buying chocolate , stocking up the cupboards because the shops will be closed for a few days, packing up the car to escape for a while. In other words...stressing out! Slow down people. Do something nice for someone, tell somebody you love them, celebrate life, think of someone other than yourself for a change. Isn't that what the spirit of Easter is really about?

Flash Fiction - Each Friday, I compose a short story of 55 words - no more, no less. If you would like to join in the fun and games... post your story and report to the boss G-MAN. If you're not interested in contributing a story, feel free to read the other entries. I'm sure any comments you have would be appreciated.

Happy reading and writing!

  1. I have non-stop arguements about commercialism. I think the beauty of easter should be in nature not chocolate (not that there's anything wrong with chocolate.....)

Thank you for sharing your vision hun x

  2. It all rests in the human touch, does it not? For good or ill...

Mine is a juicy combo-pack this week- it is here and also, just because I couldn’t stop myself… also, here.

Wonderful, touching reminder about Easter's true meaning.
I've been thinking about the song "When I survey the wondrous cross," such a powerful song.

  7. Brillant as always babe, sadly people get out of the routine of sharing and caring. Fortunately we have a lot of that routine in our lives.

  8. Any festival is always made by the human, not the commercial. Enjoyed this.
