Flash 55 - Family Secrets

Horrified to learn his great grandmother had spent most of her life enslaved, he cursed and judged the man who’d been her Master. Later, he discovered his family on his father’s side had been slave traders. Not only was he shocked by his family history but how quickly he’d judged his own flesh and blood.

Inspired by a true story from  the TV Show Who Do You Think You Are?

Flash Fiction - Each Friday, I compose a short story of 55 words - no more, no less. If you would like to join in the fun and games... post your story and report to the boss G-Man. If you're not interested in contributing a story, feel free to read the other entries. I'm sure any comments you have would be appreciated.

Have a wonderful weekend all.

  1. The part of that story I find worrisome is the judgment. We all came from some bit of our country's history. It's what we do with our own lives that counts. We are making tomorrow's history.

  2. Patti - Thanks for stopping by. Yes, it can be really difficult to not judge people but really nobody can know what they would do in a situation unless they are in the same situation.

  8. Interesting story. The blend from both sides makes him what he is today, and what he does with that (plus the new knowledge of what came before) is the most important part. :)

    Nice 55!

  24. Sometimes it's really better to let those sleeping dogs lie.. the secrets of the past may unleash some unpleasantness one wouldn't want to face...
Cuz judgment is something we humans can do most easily (no matter how detrimental it can prove to be)

This was very well written and poignant 55!!
    Kudos...

  26. Hi KB, hard to judge when we have never walked in someone's shoes. Selling one person to another, that's just wrong. Challenging 55! Thanks for stopping by my 55, good to be back. :))
