No Angel ~ Penny Vincenzi

One of my goals this year is to read more books. You can read my reviews and learn where you can purchase any of the books I've read this year here...KB's Bookshelf.

Here's a bit of the blurb from the back cover....

From the Edwardian era, to the First World War and finally the outrageous glamour of the twenties, No Angel is a powerful story of divided loyalties, family politics and moral dilemas

This is the first book in a series of three. The characters are strong and the plot interesting. I love a girlie book which is set in war time. I find learning more about history through a novel much more interesting than reading a history book on the topic. I'm already over half way through the next book and it's fab.

Desert Flower - Waris Dirie

One of my goals this year is to read more books. You can read my reviews and learn where you can purchase any of the books I've read this year here...KB's Bookshelf.

Here's a bit of the blurb from the back cover...

Waris ran away from her desert nomad family at the age of 12 when her father arranged her marriage to a sixty-year-old stranger in exchange for five camels. She escaped through the harsh Somalian desert and travelled to London where she was discovered by a fashion photographer. But she bore with her the harsh memory and real pain of an ancient custom: circumcision, administered to her at the tender age of five.

This is a remarkable, true story which brought me to tears a couple of times. The ordinary to Waris seemed extraordinary to me. This book caused me to reflect on my own life and how lucky I am to have a roof over my head, food in the fridge, fresh water to drink and most of all the right to make my own decisions in life. I'm counting my blessing. Thanks Waris.

Falliing For You - Jill Mansell

One of my goals this year is to read more books. You can read my reviews and find out where you can purchase the books I've read this year here...KB's Bookshelf.

It's your typical ugly duckling gets picked on at school by boy, boy goes away, girl turns into a beautiful swan and boy comes back and falls for her kinda story.  Enjoyed the characters, had a few giggles while I flew threw it. Great book to take on holiday to the beach or enjoy on a rainy afternoon.

Not much to report today. The sun is shining and all is well. Are you reading anything interesting besides my blog?

See you tomorrow

My Friend Rosey by Keith Hillman

One of my goals this year is to read more books. You can read my reviews and find out where you can purchase the books I've read this year here...KB's Bookshelf.

It's always wonderful when you read a book which was written by a friend. I thoroughly enjoyed reading My Friend Rosey -  the adventures of a confused thirty something  I especially enjoyed finding out more about Fuzzybutt, Scruff and Sebastian the Sex-Starved Stallion! Rosey's stories make me giggle because she reminds me a lot of myself - she could be my long lost relative. You can read Rosey's Blog and purchase her book here.

Thanks so much for sending us the book Keith. Love the way you write. Coco enjoyed it too!

Have you enjoyed any good reads recently?

See you tomorrow for more from 30 days to a happier, healthier me.

KB's Bookshelf

Having a cold has an upside - I've finished another book, yay!

Kathy Reichs is one of my favourite authors. You may think this is because the popular TV show Bones is based on the books which coincidentally stars David Boreanaz *drool* (apologies for drooling darling Steve). Now I've lost my train of thought...but no, I began reading the books way before the show started.

The plot is fast paced, the characters amusing and the forensic detail fascinating. If you are a fan of Bones (obviously) or any of the other C.S.I type shows , you'll love this read.

KB's World

Things have been a little up and down at the KB and Whitesnake abode due to much outside interference and we've both had an annoying cold. Sometimes we wish we could become hermits, lock the door and keep everyone out. We are on the mend now, my parents are back from a well deserved break in Fiji and all is back on track. Coco remains oblivious - oh to be a dog.

Righto, I have spent enough time on here. I'm off to have a few laughs at New Zealand's Next Top Model.

Happy Bithday Dad

Quote of the day

I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.
Invictus by William Ernest Henley

Happy Birthday Dad

Today is my Dad's Birthday. Steve and I invited my parents over for dinner a couple of days ago. We cooked a yummy dinner of roast beef, veggies, roast spuds, Yorkshire Pudding and gravy. Actually, Steve did most of the cooking and I helped. Wish I'd taken a pic because it looked and tasted delicious.

A good time was had by all and Dad loved his card and  Avatar DVD.

KB's World

Feeling good today. Enjoyed a wonderful few days off with Steve.  We decided Dad wouldn't mind if we watched his Birthday pressie before we gave it to him. I really enjoyed the movie but I didn't think it was as great as I'd been led to believe.

We spent the rest of our time preparing for Mum and Dad's visit. We also caught up on a few of the cooking shows we enjoy watching and had a yummy lunch at our favourite Japanese restaurant (click here to read KB1's review). All in all, a busy but fun few days off.

Thanks to everyone who voted in my poll. I'm happy we all enjoy the same content and I'll continue on as normal.

Today I'm grateful for...the love of my family.

Coming up...  KB's Bookshelf
