Real Estate Highs and Lows

As I mentioned in my previous post, Whitesnake and I decided to sell our home last year. Our real estate agent organised what is know in New Zealand as a caravan, to come through our home for a visit. Basically, this means all the agents from his company come through the house at the same time for a viewing of the property, before it goes to the market for sale.

Later on the same day, our agent informed us that one of the agents would like to make an offer on the house before it went on the market and if we accepted his offer, we would not be charged marketing costs. He made us a great offer and we were happy to save a little money on costs so we accepted it. We signed an agreement and were thrilled that we sold our home without the hassle of open homes, etc. A little while later, our agent phoned us to let us know he had been fired. We were shocked and extremely concerned. Apparently, he had been warned several times not to sell a house, without showing it to the market first. His manager called to apologise and set up a meeting to explain.

A couple of days later, the manager met with us and again was very apologetic. He explained that if the house had gone to the market, we would have received a lot more money than we had sold it for. So the agent that bought the house got a bargain but we had lost a significant amount of money. Thankfully, he didn't charge us the rather large seller's fee so in the end, we actually saved about the same amount we were short on the sale. We were happy with the result.

I must say I learned a lot from the experience. My gut feeling at the time had been that something wasn't quite right but Whitesnake and I had been offered a deal we thought at the time, we would be crazy to refuse. I now rely much more on my gut feeling and am not as naïve to believe everybody is as trustworthy as I am.

More about our journey soon.

Friday Flash 55 ~ The price of crime

It's Friday, it must be time to write a story in exactly 55 words!

Hi all,

It's been almost a year since I last wrote a 55, but I've been rather busy. Let's see, I finalised my divorce, sold a house, became engaged, bought a new house, married Whitesnake and visited South Australia for our Honeymoon. Phew!

Here's my short story for this week...

A sharp knife against his throat, for the sake of a few dollars. The robber serves time in prison, provided with food and shelter. The victim requires counselling, while trying to keep his job and a roof over his head. He relives the trauma the remainder of his days. Who is paying for this crime?

If you'd like to contribute to Friday Flash 55, visit the host with the most...G-Man and let him know you've played.

Have a great day/night

Keeping Up With KB

After a year of ups and downs, I can officially say that today I'm free from my old life. The house sale was finalised today and I'm free to start my new life with my darling Whitesnake. We've been together for three years this week. How time flies when we're having fun. I'm so excited!

Here are some pics from our walk around the Marina yesterday.

Friday Flash Fiction - Hero

Mr G has been away for a while due to illness but he's back and raring to go again. Welcome back G, you've been missed!

Each Friday I write a short story in exactly 55 words. If you'd like to join in the fun and games, write your story, visit G-Man and let him know you've posted.

Fire engulfed the children, they screamed in terror. A man appeared from the shadows to sweep them away. He was hailed a hero, given a medal of honour. The praise filled him with a warmth inside he’d been missing since childhood, but nothing could compare to the thrill he felt while watching his fires burn.

P.S. The house has finally been sold and I've had my way too long haired chopped off. I feel like a new woman...woohoo!  I'll post a pic when I get my hair looking as good as it did in the salon, this could take a while, LOL.

Teaser Tuesdays - Under The Dome by Stephen King

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by the lovely MizB of Should Be Reading.

Here's how it works...

Grab your latest read, open it up and share two sentences from the page. Easy as that. Don't forget to link back to MizB and share the title and author of your book so others can add to their TBR (to be read) list if they wish.

Here's my teaser...

Her eyes were wide, but there was no panic in them, only bewilderment. There was no time for panic.

Keeping Up With KB

Feeling a bit blah the last few days mood wise but there's still a lot going on I suppose. Whitesnake has started his new job and all is going well there. House is still on the market, no offers as yet but some interest. Have had three session of CBT so far. Felt on a real high when I left the session last week as I felt I was making a lot of progress but since then, been feeling a bit unmotivated. I have homework from the session each week and I haven't completed any so far. Perhaps I shall go and do that now and see how I feel after.

Hope you are all well
