HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

I've always wanted to see my name in lights.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 40th birthday party. I spent the evening with 20 of my nearest and dearest. I ate, drank, laughed, sang, danced, sang a song with my Dad, had my feet massaged, drank some tequila and I don't remember the rest. I do remember stumbling to bed at 3am. I'd like to say a special thank you to hubby for spending hours and hours preparing the food.

Things I know now which I didn't know before I turned 40

- Tequila and red wine do not mix...actually I already knew this but I obviously haven't learned my lesson

- I still don't know if I should use learnt or learned in the above sentence

- Men do not wear underwear under kilts

- It's not a good idea to wear the same top you wore in the Christmas photos cause people will think you don't have any other clothes

- Living in the humidity of Auckland still makes my hair frizz even after turning 40...bugga

-I have to be in as many photos as possible

- When you turn 40, people start giving you face creams as presents

Awww, still Daddy's girl

A wonderful surprise to see my youngest step-daughter in town for a flying visit.

Why is it that after drinking tequila everyone thinks they can sing? I'd turn the sound down if you dare watch. Thank God I invited the neighbours or they would have called the police because of the dreadful noise.

OMG, I'm not in this photo!

Me thinks hubby had too much tequila

THE BEACH WAS PACKED...NOT!

Last time we stayed at our place at the beach, we took a detour. This is where hubby used to spend his Christmas holidays when he was a boy. A beautiful, wee town and practically deserted. It was a lovely place to visit but do you think I can remember how to spell the town's name? *slaps self*

Hubby spotted this sign which made me giggle. What's the point of having a tap if you can't drink the water?

There was a police car parked in the car park and it reminded of Dickiebo's challenge to post the most interesting pic of yourself with a policeman. Hubby dared me to drape myself all over the car so he could take a pic. I decided against it as knowing my luck, I would be arrested. Damn, wish I'd done it now. Maybe next time...when I've had a few wines.

This sign for Kuntoro Orchards makes me giggle every time we drive past it. What were they thinking?

In other news...my birthday was erm interesting, definitely had it's ups and downs and one I will never forget. Not every day you turn 40, have the best party ever and are told to stay away from a friend's husband. Yikes! Well, they do say life begins at 40. Will post pics soon.

In happier news; it's my birthday tomorrow and I'm soooooooo excited. Twenty of my nearest and dearest coming over to celebrate with me, (including a man in a kilt) *winks at Missy*, yes, I will get a photo girl, woohoo! Hubby and I are running around like maniacs organising everything.

Mega thanks to Whitesnake, Missguided and Toadee for my pressies and cards. Love ya!

I'll be back to my blog when I've recovered - hopefully it won't take too long, hehe!

I'M BACK

I'm back.

Missed ya, except the following:

because

D - I'm only his second favourite blonde

Darlin - tried to sneak a post under the radar

Daniel - only posts once a week these days

Dickiebo - informs me his team is playing much better than mine

Erik - hasn't returned my umbrella

Jadey - types faster than me in the cafe

Keith - it's almost the end of the month and still no poem about ME

Little Wing - I miss my lil soul sista

Missy - constantly asks for help locating her brain and often her bra

Morgy - went to the booby convention without moi

Mutters - hates it when I use kisses instead of punctuation in text msgs

Phil - half cut sandwich

SEE - speechless

Steve - my blondness if rubbing off and I want it back

Toadee - wearing a suit, offering chocolate only to tell me he is a lesbian

P.S. I have decided to forgive Keith as he sent me chocolate and pics of naked men hiding behing their balls.

So now you know the way to my heart - chocolate and nudity. If I've missed you off the list it's because I don't know you well enough to cause you public humiliation YET. BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!

P.P.S. Damn, this means I must also forgive Toadee and SEE for the fig leaf and bathtub incidents

Wow, I know some strange people but I love y'all really.

I'll leave you with this....

Occasionally the immature bliss of honeymoon love yields to a growing relationship between people who notice their own flaws more than those of their mates, who are troubled more by their own selfishness than by that of their spouse, and who make it a priority to become better companions. These become the truly great marriages, and they are rare.

How rare is your marriage?

Looks like I swallowed my quote book this week...bugga!

HANGING ON THE TELEPHONE

I contacted my telephone company earlier today. I was greeted by one of those automated phone messages...

"I can understand certain words and phrases, please make your choices by speaking".

Every time I heard the message, I burst out laughing, the tears were rolling down my cheeks. Many words and phrases came to mind but I was certain my telephone provider wouldn't appreciate them. I had to call back three times before I could speak.

However, it's refreshing to know a computer understands me; most people I talk to on the phone don't.

"What you on about now Karen..."
"Could you repeat that please..."
"You blonde or what..."
"Can you stop laughing for five minutes, I can't understand a word you're sayin..."

Which reminds me...

If you only had an hour to live and could make only one phone call-who would you call, what would you say, and why are you waiting?

-Stephen Levine-

Well, it wouldn't be the telephone company, that's for sure.

STORMY WEATHER

We've been experiencing terrible weather in my neck of the woods. I spent yesterday under the covers as the rain pelted down and the thunder roared. Conditions have improved considerably today but not without taking a toll. Looks like the birds have been making a nest here but I consider myself lucky to have only a hole in the roof to worry about.

Six students and one teacher, from a college close to my home, died while on a canyoning trip. Apparently, there was a flash flood on the river. Why anyone would be canyoning during such heavy downpours is beyond me. Such a tragedy.

My thoughts are with the families tonight. I can't begin to imagine what they are going through.

Hug your kiddies and your loved ones next time you see them...they can be taken away in an instant...scary thought aye.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRACE

My eldest step-daughter recently turned 21. Wow, how time flies. Happy Birthday sweetheart.

How do I describe my girl...loving, kind, generous, funny, sensitive, intelligent, hard working, independent... I could go on forever really but I wont, hehe!

I remember when she was ten years old; she took me aside and asked me if she could come and live with me and her Dad. I can't even put into words how overjoyed I was. She's lived with us on and off since then and I've been honoured to be a huge part of her upbringing. We've had our ups and downs but she's blossomed into a wonderful, young woman.

She's been working overseas for almost a year now. I miss her very much but I'm so proud she's out experiencing the world. Grace has achieved as much in the last few years as I have in my last 20!

She sent me a text on her birthday which made me chuckle. Apparently it was 8.30am and she was already on her fourth wine. LMAO, that's my girl...does she take after her step-mum or what?

Anyway, I'll stop now before I start bawling my eyes out.

Happy Birthday sweetheart, love ya to bits and remember...

FEED THE GOOD WOLF GRACIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lots of Love

PIGS IN SHIT

Have you heard the expression - "happy as a pig in shit"?, it describes perfectly how hubby, Coco and I feel when we are away in our caravan.

Hubby as pig in shit

Coco as pig in shit

KB as pig in shit

Actual pigs in shit

I wonder if anyone has ever used the word shit as often in a blog post as I just did here?

This has nothing to do with the above post but while I was away I learned a new word…verisimilitude… “It had the disorderly versimilitude of reality.” Scott Smith. Damn I love that line, sounds much better than “pigs in shit“! I'll go now...I think I've finally lost the plot.

WHERE I DISAPPEAR TO

Have some vids to share with you, this is where I go when I say..."Gone To The Beach". There is actually a beach down the road from here but we didn't go this time around. I'll show you that next time, as long as there aren't any nudists there...they may get the wrong idea if I get my camera out while they are naked!

TO BLOG OR NOT TO BLOG

Recently, I was having a discussion and the topic of blogging came up You know the kind of conversation I’m talking about.

Me - I wrote about it on my blog.

Her - What’s a blog?

I tried to explain the concept and she looked at me like I’d lost the plot, her eyes started to glaze over and the following questions were asked.

Why would you want to share such personal information with strangers?

Why do you do it?

Who reads it?

I tried to explain further but to no avail. The final comment was - “Aren’t you worried people will read it and think Karen’s finally lost it, and needs to get a life?”. Arrg, she really didn’t get it.

I’ve kept a personal journal from an early age. I’ve been writing a blog on another site for about three years now. It isn’t a public journal and is available to readers by invite only. Hubby was always asking me what I was writing in there so I decided to keep my original blog for my eyes only and start a public blog . This works really well for me. I still have a place to write my private thoughts…which is like therapy for me. Also, I have a way of keeping in touch with friends and family, which is fantastic as my kids and hubby are often away from home.

I’ve noticed that since I’ve been blogging, I’m more in touch with what’s going on in the world. I pay more attention to conversations and what’s happening around me. I’m more in the moment, as it were.  I’ll be wide awake at four in the morning, staring at the ceiling, thinking of blog titles or ideas I have for posts. I often reach for my notepad and write them down, but can’t for the life of me read what I wrote in the morning - may have something to do with the amount of wine I’ve had at the time.

I wouldn’t be without my wee blog. It’s something I do just for me. Once I start writing, the outside world is lost to me - I’m totally immersed in what I’m doing. It’s like losing yourself in drawing or playing an instrument; the same as any other creative enterprise.

I have the opportunity to say exactly what’s on my mind and state my opinions and ideas without
interruption. I love it, and if I don’t write here or in my journal for a while…my mind starts to feel like it will explode. It’s something I have to do for my sanity - what ever is left of it, that is. Hehe.
it’s the one place I have where I can put myself first; it’s all about my opinions, my thoughts and I don’t have to worry about anyone else for a while. And, if others enjoy it, that’s a bonus.
