Weekend Walkabout

30 days to a happier, healthier me - day 6.

One of my first goals was to walk more each week. I was struggling a little previously as I had been experiencing the occasional panic attack when I was walking. I took some of my friends advice and decided to go somewhere different for my walk and take my camera with me. I found this worked really well as I was focusing on my environment instead of letting my thoughts race (which can lead to panic). You can read more about my thoughts on panic attacks here.

With this in mind, Whitesnake and I have decided to take a walk somewhere different each week and share our pics with you. We've called this blog segment Weekend Walkabout - a place to share and explore the different corners of our world.

Here's some pics I took last week while in the park.

Walkabout is a phrase we use in NZ, which means to walk around and explore with no specific destination in mind. Have you been walkabout anywhere interesting this week? If so, post your story or pictures to your blog, leave a comment here and a link to your blog on our Linky and Whitesnake or KB will come take a look.

Hope you enjoyed the pics.

  2. Pictures look beautiful. I had a panic attack once on the London Underground because the escalators were so high, the steps were slatted and I had high heeled boots on. I looked around for another way out but other than catch another train to another station couldn't see one. I decided to read the notices to calm down and then i noted that others were running up the left side of the escalator rather than standing to go up on the right side. Despite my high heeled boots I decided to take a run for the left hand side. I got to the top and since then, touch wood have never had another attack like it. :O)

  3. Wow and the sun is shining too! We've been lacking in the sunshine department here in QLD of late. I love the photos and am so glad that the distractions are working for you. It is fun though taking photos of your surroundings & it forces you to open your eyes more & really notice what is around! I really need to start doing the same again myself. Have a great week ahead KB!

  4. Good for you! My wife and I spent many years hiking in the forests and through the mountains of the USA. To us, it represents tranquility. I know the phrase is overused, but as a lifetime martial artist, I bought into it years ago. Become One With Nature and you journey through life without anxiety. Respect Nature. Disturb nothing. Threaten nothing. Enjoy everything. Keep walking, KB. I think you are terrific!

  5. Thanks Wynn, Missy, Neva and Jingle.

Madeleine - Let's hope that was your one and only panic.

Kat - Get out there and take some pics and maybe you could share with us next week?

JJ - Walking as relaxation is what I'm aiming for too.
