I tawt I taw a puddy tat... and a bunny?

I thought I saw a pussy cat and a bunny on my neighbours' steps and I was right. How strange. At first, I believed they were unusual friends but it turns out the bunny was on the run and never to be seen again. Safe travels little bunny!

In other news, my Dad and I have both been in the wars this week. My Dad is a keen cyclist but crashed with another cyclist a couple of days ago. He's broken his collarbone so he'll need to take it easy for a while. Easier said than done for an active man in his seventies.

I was exhausted yesterday and spent the majority of the day in bed. Could be hormones (or lack of them), or maybe too much sun. Feeling less tired today but lacking energy. Luckily for me, my wonderful husband has been looking after me and we don't have any plans for this weekend.

I'm sharing this post with Saturday's Critters

Have a wonderful weekend.

A beautiful morning in Weymouth

Whitesnake and I have decided to spend some time exploring our neighbourhood. We've lived in South Auckland for years but haven't visited as many local places as we would like. It's spring time here in New Zealand and quite wet recently so as soon as there was a sunny day, we hoped in the car and drove a short 10 minutes to Weymouth. A beach, some benches and a walkway awaited. Definitely will be visiting again.

Poetry: Good Times

Remember the good times
They'll serve you well
When life is hard
As tough as hell

Hot summer nights
Lying in bed
His strong shoulders
Resting my head

Laughing and loving
Wasting our days
Entombed in our room
Set in our ways

You doing your thing
Me doing mine
Coming together
For beer and wine

Life carries on
Memories remain
Don't let bad times
Leave their stain

Keeping up with KB

I can't believe I haven't blogged since May. Not for any particular reason I can think of really. So here's a post to catch you up with KB.

One stormy night, Whitesnake (hubby), cut his hand while trying to close a jammed window. He needed stitches at the time but it all healed up now. Scary stuff.

Recently we had family visiting from Australia, a lovely time was had by all. During their stay we visited a local restaurant for lunch. Whitesnake and I had heard great things about the restaurant from a friend. Unfortunately, Whitesnake had to send his meal back twice so we were extremely disappointed.

Whitesnake's brother and sister-in-law

After sending an email regarding our experience to the restaurant, we were happy to receive a phone call, an apology and a voucher for a free meal. Earlier this week we went back to the restaurant and enjoyed a delicious meal.

That's all from me today.

Have a great weekend.

A Fun Break

Hi all,

Whitesnake and I enjoyed a quiet Easter break, followed by my birthday. I spent my birthday reading the third instalment of The Game of Thrones books, opening presents, eating lovely meals that my hubby prepared for me and drinking wine. Loved it!

Here's my photo for Skywatch...

Elevation by Stephen King

Shared with Teaser Tuesday and First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros. Please feel free to play along.

Here's my teaser:

The steady rate of the weight-loss since then was worrisome, yes, but only a little. It was the clothes thing that had changed worry into fright.

First paragraph:

Scott Carey knocked on the door of the Ellis condo unit, and Bob Ellis (everyone in Highland Acres still called him Doctor Bob, although he was five years retired) let him in. ''Well, Scott, here you are. Ten on the dot. Now what can I do for you?"

Twisting turmoil

emotions run amok

feelings laid out

like an open book

Nowhere to run

nowhere to hide

some secrets should

remain inside

The prison consumes

time to break free

nobody to lean on

I must depend on me

The heart is willing

the time is now

a little faith

takes care of the how

Autumn leaves changing

The past falls away
Preparing for the winter
The darkening of the days

Winter now consumes me
I take myself to bed
Hide under the blankets
Shake the monster from my head

Spring is now upon us
A change is in the air
Basking in the sunshine
I hardly have a care

Summer rain cooling
Reminds of change to come
Darkness will fade away
The battle has been won

Life Goes On

A week after the devastating terror attacks, I've been trying to stay busy.

A year after my detached retina surgery and all went well at the optometrist. Eye is still looking healthy, no cataract as yet and I'm getting new glasses in a couple of weeks.

Earlier in the week, I was featured on Poets United website.

I'll leave you with an evening SkyWatch

One of New Zealand's Darkest Days

My heart goes out to the victims and families of this vicious attack. Whitesnake and I are safe but still in shock as nothing like this has ever happened here before. One of the great things I always loved about NZ was that I believed it was a safe place to live, I guess things won't be the same now.

An update from our Prime Minister

New Zealand's darkest day
Yet I have nothing to say
Anger trapped inside
Emotions I try to hide

Numerous countries I have roamed
But New Zealand, she's my home
Her freedom and her safety
You will never take from me!

Thank you all for the love and support you have sent  New Zealand during this devastating time.

Introducing Sideshow Bob

Hi all,

Recently I was reading an interesting blog, (unfortunately I can't remember which blogger to thank), showing pictures of beautiful indoor plants. This reminded me that purchasing an indoor plant was on my to-do-list so whoever you are, thank you.

Whitesnake and I decided on a Maidenhair Fern as I'd managed to raise one to a decent age previously, (usually my houseplants die a miserable death). Anyway, we took him home and re potted him ( my houseplants are always male) and sat him in the corner.

Later in the evening, my hubby began chuckling to himself and asked if the plant reminded me of anyone.... now his name is Bob. He's named after Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons. Can you see the resemblance or have we finally lost the plot?

Another Beautiful Day In South Auckland

I'm loving the weather this week; sunshine but not too hot. It's also been an expensive week as Whitesnake needed a trip to the dentist. That's all from me today, have a great weekend and I'll see you next week.

Poetry

Hi all,

A busy week for us with appointments with the doctor and the dentist. I have experienced difficulties with blood pressure in the past so it was fantastic to hear that my blood pressure was perfect!

Whitesnake and I don't have a lot planned for the weekend so I'm looking forward to lots of reading and blogging.

Have a great weekend!

She builds me up
When I'm feeling low
No need to think
The words will flow

Sometimes I giggle
At the lines we share
Did I write that
Blissfully unaware

When I'm stuck in a rut
She whispers and taunts
Words don't make sense
Her rhymes she flaunts

Silently mocking
When I'm feeling my best
Lurking beneath the surface
With my misery suppressed

She knows I'll be back
We are one and the same
Her words I must write
Or she'll drive me insane

She's gives herself freely
Time and again
I can't thank her enough

Valentine's Day

Hi everyone,

Whitesnake and I celebrate Valentine's Day every year. All relationships have ups and downs but I do believe that since we have been together, most days for us are like our version of Valentine's Day.

After we enjoyed a sleep in, our neighbour popped in for coffee and a chat. Whitesnake and I prepared home made pizza together and spent most of the evening watching Game of Thrones. My husband is a huge fan of Game of Thrones but I'm watching it for the first time. I used to laugh when Whitesnake watched the show because every time I walked into the room, there was either bare breasts or fighting so I didn't believe it would be my cup of tea. I'm actually enjoying GOT (which we have started watching from the beginning) and looking forward to reading the books soon.

A relaxing day at home together is our perfect Valentine's Day. Did you celebrate?

Her trap is set, she'll make it clear

A chameleon, swapping and changing
Becoming the girl you dreamt of possessing

She has you now, where she wants you
No turning back, try if you must do
She'll devour you and spit you out
Isn't this what the game's about?

Time to move on,
Find fresh prey
There's plenty more
Begging to play

Happy Waitangi Day, New Zealand

A fun week for me so far...

Monday was my second to last CBT session with my therapist. Loved it and will write about it in detail on my health and wellness blog at a later stage.

Wednesday was Waitangi Day, a public holiday in New Zealand. Whitesnake and I spent the day relaxing at home as it was a hot day. Actually we've enjoyed several hot days recently but thankfully today, the rain is falling and watering our vegetables and garden.

Here's a photo I took on Waitangi Day, which I am sharing with Skywatch Friday.

Sweet seduction
Sows the seed
Wanting, yearning
Fulfilling needs

Momentum builds
No turning back
Doubt consumes
Fuels the attack

Whispers abound
Rumours spread
Pulling back
No searching ahead

Truth forgotten
Scandal full blown
Lies take on
A life of their own

See ya later

Rescued Hens

These little beauties used to live in cages until our lovely neighbours adopted them. The girls look so much healthier than when they were first brought home. Hubby and I feed them when our neighbours travel. This morning, they were waiting at the gate for us.  I love the clucking noise they make when they hear us coming and the fresh eggs are delicious.

Happy Anniversary Day, Auckland

Hi my friends,
Whitesnake and I are enjoying a relaxing long weekend as Auckland celebrates Anniversary Day. The actual Auckland Anniversary Day is tomorrow - 29th January,  but today is a public holiday so Auckland can enjoy a long weekend.

Auckland Harbour - Photo Source KB
I've been thankful to have the day off every year since I moved to New Zealand, without really knowing much about it . As I moved here in 1984, I decided it was long overdue that I  I learned about what I was celebrating. So here goes...
Explorer and first governor of New Zealand - William Hobson arrived in New Zealand in 1840 and signed a treaty with the Maori people, which led to New Zealand becoming a new British colony. Hobson founded Auckland later the same year and named it the capital of New Zealand. A small regatta was held in Auckland that year and by the following year, the regatta and Auckland Anniversary Day, (the date Hobson first spotted New Zealand) was established.
Apparently,  'the regatta is the largest one-day event of its kind in the world and is the central attraction of Auckland Anniversary Day.'  I found very interesting as I live in Auckland and don't remember hearing anything about this large event but Goggle informs me of these facts, so it must be true!
So instead of attending the regatta with our fellow Aucklanders, Whitesnake and I made our own fun. Drinks, home made pizza and laughs were shared with a friend on Friday night.  I knew I'd had a fabulous night the following morning when it took me a few seconds to remember how to drive my car.

Last night didn't go as well, I drank too much wine and yelled at my husband for no reason. My husband is the kindest, most generous. loving person on the planet so as you can imagine, I'm feeling incredibly guilty and have vowed to never drink the evil red wine again.

I intend to spend the rest of the long weekend grovelling, relaxing and NOT touching a drop of red wine.
Happy Anniversary Day, Auckland!

Poetry: A Year Ago Today

Bumped up to share with  Poetry Pantry , originally posted 21/9/2010

A year ago today
Didn't expect to feel this way
Forlorn and ashamed
No one else to blame

A year ago today
Why did it end that way
Lies and deceit
No thoughts of who would weep

A year ago today
No one standing in my way
Hearts trampled in my wake
Their give, to my take

A year ago today
Gave my old life away
Too late to explain
My excuses, no ones gain

A year ago today
A new life on its way
His love will find a way
To guide me through this day

Poetry: Misunderstood

Here's a poem I wrote a few years ago. Bumped up to share with  Poetry Pantry and Tuesday Platform. Originally posted 13/10/2010

You would have understood me, had you waited
Would have loved me instead of hated
Your words cut deep and hurt me
Misrepresented and dirty

A mystery still unfolding
Begrudging instead of holding
Let loose on a sea of hate
Bide your time and commiserate

Battles fought, still raging on
Lovers distraught, mind has gone
You could have loved me, if you'd waited
Destiny and fate untranslated

Community Pantry

Look what we discovered while we were taking a walk this morning; a community pantry. Available for the community to drop off food for the less fortunate to collect as needed. Hubby and I dropped off an item we had left over from a Christmas hamper. A wonderful idea.
